One of my favorite things about Seattle is how alive it is. It's so wet that it feels like life is growing on every surface which is a creepy thought but somehow comforting to me. Alicia and I went on a walk this morning and we passed these flowers - their bright colors made me smile.

When I fly I drink tomato juice about 50% of the time. I like V8 when I'm on land but in the air I prefer straight tomato juice. Wondering what I drink the other 50% of the time? 40% ginger ale and 10% Diet Coke.

See that Real Simple? It was a great read. Lots of helpful hints, recipes and products - one of my favorite RS issues.

Remember how I thought about adopting her? Well, another family got to her first. I'm glad she went to a (presumably) good home, but I'm not happy about being back at square one in my dog search.

I went fake camping with the Farrars. By fake I mean we showed up for dinner and dessert and then went home. I also mean that we precooked our foil dinners. That's my kind of camping. The foil dinner kind of looks like grey nastiness but trust me, it was tasty.

In Seattle Costco sells gelato. Steph and Rob introduced me to it, and I like it. I don't LOVE it but I still wish our Costco had it.

My position has always been that Seattle looks like a horror movie. This trip has provided substantial proof that I'm right.

I tried on my first pair of Louboutins, just for fun. I was shopping for an outfit for an upcoming black tie dinner and ended up with Badgley Mischkas. One day I'll find Louboutins that are worth it...

Red Mango. Still in love. Now that raspberries are ripe I like it even more.

I like Trader Joe's. I wish Utah County had one.

Fondue with The Party. A good time.

My new favorite food:

Seriously, it's like eating dessert.

I went to the pound today and met 2 nice dogs - Roxie and Sage. Roxie is still very much a puppy and probably needs more attention than I can give her but she is darling and so sweet. If you're in the market for a lab-ish dog, she's great.

Sage is definitely energetic but not wild. She doesn't jump up often, but could use a few reminders on manners. I think I might want her to come home with me but I'm not sold yet. If I could put her on hold I would...but it doesn't work like that. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Tonight I signed up for pest control service from a door to door salesman. Good karma, I figure. They come on Tuesday to work on kicking out (read: killing) Little Buddy & Co. It's about time...I'm tired of keeping my breakfast cooking utensils on my dining room table so that I know they're not contaminated.

Mary made jam, I ate it for breakfast this morning. Homemade jam is 100 times better than store bought. Sidenote: the iPhone does not recognize "jam" and switches it to "jan" every time. Do people not use the word "jam" anymore? Maybe most people use "jelly?"

This was my closet tonight. Just keeping it real. I cleaned it up...but only because Heather was coming over and you never know when a guest will want to see your closet.

Bos, remember on the way to St. George when I was all "I've got my laundry under control?" Turns out that it's now completely out of control. I need a cleaning lady stat.

Today I took the first step toward getting a dog by looking up options at the humane society. The biggest problem with starting this process now is that I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger but I want to know what my options are so that I'm informed when the time comes - and since Utah euthanizes it's possible that these cute dogs will be dead by the time I'm ready to adopt. What??? My heart can't handle knowing that if I were more on the ball I would save a dog's life. I'm particularly fond of Nala. Not sure why but that terrible picture of her speaks to my soul.

Alicia introduced me to these delicious goodies - basically frozen crepes from Ikea. They come 12 to a bag, all folded up and cute. I've had them with traditional sweet crepe fillings (Nutella, jam, etc) and this morning with pepperoni (so random but I was in a hurry) and they are so good both ways. Definitely my new favorite food.

I did my first real home project today - I unjammed my garbage disposal. It was a) gross and b) frustrating. Homeownership would be significantly easier if I were a man. I really need to find an on-call handyman. It's not that I CAN'T do home projects, it's that I have 0 desire to. I'm trying to reconcile this with self-sufficiency - it's not going well.

I also put together this massive Ikea bookshelf today. Talk about hot, sweaty pig work! It took two and a half hours, was slightly confusing and made me ornery. Truth be told, I was probably only ornery because I was sweating but in any case I'm glad it's over. Next challenge is lifting it to standing and getting it to its spot in the room. Remember that I need a handyman?

Had Sunday dinner with Mary and Brent tonight at their house. Laraine's white beans and rice = delicious.

I met Liv for lunch today at Thai Chili Garden. We haven't really seen each other in weeks so it was great to catch up. I was reminded several times of why I love being with her - mostly because she just makes sense to me. No need to explain things when we're talking, our brains finish each other's sentences. I suppose that's what best friends are for.

This afternoon I got to celebrate 100 days of baby Andrew's life. There were lots of activities for kids, including a few crafts. I love helping kids be creative. Not only are they mellow and often willing to accept help, they also will really talk about things. That little glimpse into their brain is priceless.

I keep seeing ads for Clinique's dark spot corrector, even better, and it sure sounds great. I stopped at the Clinique counter for moisturizer so I grabbed a bottle. I have some hyperpigmentation issues so I'm hoping this helps...according to the ads in 4-12 weeks I should have a whole new face! I was a little worried that it would fade my freckles, which I really like, but the good news is that Clinique likes them too.

I went to Pottery Barn with Heather this afternoon - playing hooky from work makes all sorts of fun possible. I got a whole bunch of stuff (but forgot to use my coupon, ugh) and saw these cute votive holders. They had them filled with sand hanging from umbrellas - so cute. I may try to make them...

I hung out with Tara and the girls again tonight. Baby Lucy is getting cuter by the day. We just need to get her over her nervous nellie tendencies so she doesn't prepare to scream when I get near her.

I love this look - blocks attached to the wall randomly. Too bad I don't have a nursery to try it out in.

Today I took the chair that matches my couch on a trial basis. I like it, it's beautiful, but I think they're too big for my library. Sigh.

Ignore the mess...I'm still moving in.

Today I saw these massive tire things as I was driving to Tara's. I have no idea what they are but they scared me. Anyone know?

Tonight Tara and I watched Grey's together and freaked out sitting right next to each other on the couch. No pictures, there was no time for such nonsense, but I'm certain we looked funny. Such a great episode...but I hope I never see another like it!

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

I took this on my way into work today - look how pretty the upper left hand corner is. I was dropping down a hill so a few seconds before the picture would have been better...but I was taking a picture while driving so I did the best I could.

Sometimes, even during important meetings, we get a little ADD and the phones come out. Danielle texted this to me a few seconds later. Embarrassing, yes, but it's just how we roll.

My car got detailed today. It still takes my breath away when it's clean.

I sleep with my bathroom light on every night like a 5 year old. I'm sure that someday I'll get used to the new house.

I bought this couch today. I really like it and can't wait to see it in my house.

This is funny

Viral, so you've probably seen it, but I just got on the bandwagon today.

I'm considering buying this couch for my library. It's a great price, low profile so it won't cover much of the window, crushed velvet (my all time fav), and just pretty. The picture doesn't do it justice, I promise. It's from my favorite store these days, Alice Lane. If you're in the neighborhood tomorrow go check it out...but don't try to buy it, I have it on hold.

Had Smashburger for dinner with Tar & Jer sans babies. I love that place and those people.

(Phae - did I just hear an "aww, tender?")

In meetings I doodle. A lot. I'm so ADD that it keeps my mind focused on the task at hand. I usually draw 1 of 2 things - stars or APX. Today I combined them to create this masterpiece.

I found these towels at Bed, Bath & Beyond today. I bought 4 hand towels I liked them so much. They're by Amy Butler which I should have known. These days if I like something, she designed it. I've been in the same situation with Reaction by Kenneth Cole for years. Does that ever happen to you?

Cafe Rio chicken salad for dinner tonight. Man I love these things. Some nights they're the only thing that will hit the spot.

May 14 - 16, 2010

My Provo manager retreat in St. George - it was awesome.

We saw Brian Regan at Tuacahn (I didn't think he was THAT funny)...

Did a lot of relaxing by the pool and playing in it...

The girls went to the spa while the boys played golf...

And we ate a lot of really good food.

Basically a perfect weekend. I'm blessed.
