Cast Not Away Therefore Your Confidence

Today I had the most enjoyable yet intense conversation with a perfect stranger. It wasn't what I was expecting to have happen today but I love most the experiences that God puts in my path that I don't realize I need. Some of our conversation was about topics in this BYU devotional. You should read it, it's one of my all time favorites.

Peggy, welcome to the blog. I'm praying for you.

Which do you like more and why?

Would be covered in dark reddish brown leather and go in my family room. I'm not sure which one I like more...

Girls' night

Tonight I'm watching this...
with Mary...

and Liv.

Girls' night with 4 of my best friends...does it get any better than that?

We made the front page of the New York Times

Ok, not the company, but at least our sign!
Blogger is my mortal enemy right now so I can't get the picture to improve. Go here if you don't believe it's us.

Syd in the snow

On Saturday I watched Syd and Rob so Liv and Scott could celebrate Valentines Day. While Rob was sleeping Syd missed her mommy and got just a little weepy. In need of a distraction I suggested that we go outside and look at snowflakes. Somehow that turned into full on playing in the snow but it was just what Syd-o needed to feel better about hanging out with me.

We caught snowflakes on our tongues...

tasted snow (and learned the important difference between white and yellow)...
and got so silly we couldn't even take a normal looking picture (why is 3 such a goofy age?). For all of you that are judging me for taking her out without a coat and only wearing Crocs, just know that A) it's warmer when it snows B) this kid HATES coats (well, clothes in general but I did manage to keep her fully dressed) and C) she kept insisting her feet were warm.

The internet is weird

I read this post and then logged onto facebook to find this:

I don't know Courtney yet 2 of my best friends (who don't know her either) are also friends with her on facebook simply because she asked people to add her. I'm really, really glad the world wide web brings us together but sometimes it just feels a little weird.

But just for the record, I think we'd be friends with Courtney if she wasn't a Mormon celebrity and we met her in real life.

Saturday night Alicia, Steph and I got together with our good friends from our years at BYU. Even though a lot of us live in the same town, I don't get to see them as often as I'd like so it was fun to catch up. The bishop of our ward at BYU stopped by for a visit and so we took advantage of the photo op. When I took the picture off my camera tonight I was also organizing pictures in Picasa and I came across this one:
It's fun to see how much we've grown up - some of us have gotten married and some are even working on kids!

Alicia's Bridal Shower

Saturday morning I threw a bridal shower for Alicia at our friend Syd's house. All of our closest girlfriends came, we ate great food, heard Alicia and James' love story, played with cute babies, talked and talked, opened presents and just had a great time together.

Dinner and a movie

If you liked The Secret Life of Bees you need to see the movie. Mary and I saw it a couple of months ago and loved it - they perfectly capture not only the characters' personalities but also the life lessons found in the book. We both bawled and walked out craving southern food so I recommend making it a movie and dinner event - we went to Cracker Barrel afterward!
If you haven't read the book, buy it now and read it. I wrote this post in November and really thought I had posted it but when I read a post on The Green Piece today about the book I realized this was sitting in my drafts. Jenny said that "many of [her] friends couldn't get beyond the religious/spiritual things in the book" but not only was this not an issue for me, none of my friends struggled with it either. This is a book that changed my heart and gave me a new perspective on love and acceptance - I really believe the world would be a better place if we could all read it and internalize the lessons taught.
